The sun shone above in the morning sky as a young orange tom made his way into the clearing of Sandy Hill. It was very sandy here. He padded across the ground over to one of the many stunted trees the plains held, his paw making soft imprints in the dusty ground. Firemask looked up at the brilliant blue sky, his emerald green eyes shining, as the sun glinted of his glossy fur. Once under the tree, Firemask opened his mouth to let in the morning air and let the scent of mouse wash over him. His eyes drating back and forth, Firemask searched for the mouse until he found it under the shelter of a bush, nibbling on some seeds. The mouse unaware of him, Firemask crouched low on his honches and sprang forward, paws outstretched. The mouse let out an audible squeak and then fell silent as the young cat bit into the back of its neck. Firemask licked his chest then dug a bit a hole in the sand, burying the mouse for safe keeping.

Thought suddenly came back to LavaStorm. She had hunted the night away, instinct stealing her mind. Her cache was large, and she was proud of it. But time suddenly rolled back into frame, and she blinked, looking up at the sky. The sun ws out and blzing in new morning. Dew wet her paw. Her friends, the owls, her only companions in her silent nights turned in, replaced by chirpy birds that sought seeds not prey. LavaStorm glanced down at her own paws, seeing their claws unsheathed and dug into the earth beneath her. She glanced up again, from her hidden post behind leafage, to see a Clanmate, FireMask, bury his kill and paused for a groom. She had been tracking that very mouse, and primtive anger had been aroused in her at someone else stealing her prey. Ashamed, she sheathed her claws realising how close she had come to attacking him. LavaStorm licked her side nervously, aware now of how ruffled and worn she was, before stepping into view. "FireMask." she greeted politely.

(are you from Willow's site??)
"Woah!!" Firemask let out a surprised yowl and fell backwards as someone spoke, temporarily interrupting his grooming session. He blinked the blazing sun out of his eyes and gave himself a good shake to get sand out of his fur. Sitting up he licked his chest fur a couple times out of embarassment and looked up into the polite eyes of Lavastorm. "Jeez LavaStorm, you scared the pee out of me." the young tom chuckled good naturely, then commented, "You were really quiet, kinda like an owl." Firemask looked around nervously. Man, this is embarrasing... he thought. So to make some type of conversation, "What were you doing out here? I didn't see you in camp last night." Cocking his head to the side, his emerald eyes gleamed curiously at the she-cat.

((yesh, dur. Tis me, Misty.))
An amused glint flashed in LavaStorm's amber eyes. What an interesting saying... she thought of FireMask's initial response. But when a question was directed at her she answered at once. "The air is cooler at night. I prefer it for hunting." LavaStorm's ear flicked. "But what of you, FireMask? It's pretty early for someone else hunting."

A small cat walked into view behind the two other warriors, he moved silently, his paws barely making a sound on the dusty dry land. Blazepaw stood a few tail lengths behind them, his unique brownish, reddish, ginger pelt was messy and unkempt like usual. The small cat stood there with a serious but yet almost nothing expression. It was not how a cat of his age should act but it was rather strange. His clan mates were used to this though since this was the way he had been since his mother died. Blazepaw dropped his gaze to the dead mouse his mentor had caught; his eyes held the same expression serious but blank. He had no friends now, his old friends tried to cheer him up but they had given up after a moon or two of trying to get him back to his usual self. He meowed nothing he just lifted his gaze to the two warriors in front of him.

(oh, lol. sorry Misty. hey do you want to be one of the mods?)
Firemask stared curiously at the she-cat then answered, "Well, like you said, the morning air is cooler than afternoon sun, even if it's not as cool as night is." The young tom looked around him taking in the sparse beauty of their territory, when a movement from the back caught his eye. Turning around, Firemask came face to face with his apprentice, Blazepaw. As usual, the small tom had a serious, blank look about his face. Firemask had thought this apprentice was rather unusual when he was first assigned to him, but had gotten used to his behavior. He was a good apprentice and usually obeyed things without question. "Good job Blazepaw. I didn't even hear you." Firemask praised his apprentice.

((Sure.))
LavaStorm watched the apprentice curiously. Of course she knew who he was, but didn't really speak to anyone much considering her nocturnal habits. He was silent, strange. "BlazePaw." she offered in greeting. LavaStorm bright orange pelt shimmered in the new morning light and she shook it. "So is training going well, FireMask?"

Blazepaw blinked at Flamemask’s praise but otherwise showed no other sign that he had even heard his mentor praise him, he turned his pale yellow eyes to look at Lavastorm, but it was strange the way he looked at people. He was not really looking at them but more so looking through them. “Hello.” Was all he murmured quietly before, he tasted the air for any sign of prey he smelled a squirrel near by. Blazepaw turned towards the direction it was in silently. He stalked quietly creeping through the bush and stopping when he saw it. It was looking at for some nuts at the bottom of an oak tree. Blazepaw dashed forward speedily and grabbed it in his paws snapping it’s neck quickly. The squirrel was the almost same size as him since he was so small but he dragged it back to his mentor.

LavaStorm watched BlazePaw through puzzled eyes. Perhaps he would be more of a night hunter, as well... LavaStorm pushed the thought away. Having FireMask as a mentor will help his heart. "BlazePaw, when a heart breaks it can sometimes grow back crooked." she meowed quietly to him. After watching him for a moment longer, she turned back to his mentor. "Let me go get my prey. I'll add it to yours." And then she turned and disappeared, back to where he cache is, leaving the two toms waitning.

Blazepaw could not hold her gaze for a second, but then he glared at her through narrowed eyes, but he wiped that expression away too, even though he was still angry at her and himself on the inside. He nodded though watching her leave, with anger flashing in his eyes. He never used to be so easily angry but deep down he knew he should not be. Blazepaw just watched her disappear into the darkness, then resumed his normal state of expression. He looked at his squirrel laying before him and felt chills run through his body when he saw how still it was and how much it reminded him of the way his mother looked after she died.

LavaStorm bright orange pelt bobbed back into view as she loped through the undergrowth, her jaws full of prey. Once back in the small clearing, she lay three mice, a shrew, a mole, and robin beside BlazePaw's huge squirrel. Other then one other bird she had caught that she had eaten during the night to keep up her strength, this was her catch. LavaStorm's amber eyes didn't travel back to BlazePaw's blank ones; there was no need to pressure him for anything. He'd return on his own time.

Blazepaw looked at the prey she dropped in front of him, he was impressed. Three mice, a mole and a robin was a great catch for one cat. In his mind he thought, 'she's a pretty doo hunter.' Though he was never going to say that, not unless she said somethng to him. Blazepaw stood now looking at his mentor with questioning eyes that said, 'what now?' He wondered if they would continue on hunting or help Lavastorm bring back her huge catch, it did not matter to him either way was fine, he offered no opnion like usual, he just wondered so he would know what to next.

Firemask watched the two cats' exchange with interest. He knew his apprentice well enough to see what LavaStorm had said to him had gotten to him. He saw anger flash in the young cat's eyes, then go blank again. Firemask felt for his apprentice, as he had not always been the blank, easily angered cat he was now. But Blazepaw was still his and he still cared about him. Coming out of his personal thought web, Firemask turned around to see LavaStorm adding her catch to his pile. It was impressive for only one cat. Turning back to Blazepaw, Firemask watched him take down a squirrel, then turn to him with a questioning gaze. "Nice catch. " he praised, "How 'bout you keep hunting now." he instructed. Then paused, "With the rate you two are going at we'll be havin' a feast tonight!" Firemask grinned at the two cats.

LavaStorm offered an unused smile, and dipped her head at the praise. "Well please, FireMask, display your skills. BlazePaw and I can only do so much." She was pleased with herself. Interacting wasn't as hard as she thought it would be.

Firemask smiled back at LavaStorm. "Okay, then I will." Firemask jumped past the nearest bush and out of site. Opening his mouth slightly, the orange tom let the scents of prey flood his mouth. He twitched ear as he heard a squeak to his left side. Turning slowly, his paws making soft thuds on the ground, he spotted a large rabbit nibbling at some grass by another bush. The rabbit unaware of him, Firemask bunched his hind legs and jumped, claws unsheathed. The rabbit made a pitiful squeak as he sank his claws into its back and quickly bit down on its neck. The rabbit lay dead at his paws, but the bush rustled beside him and scent flooded his nose with thrush. The small bird flew out of the bush as Firemask made a split-second decision and launched himself into the air, his powerful legs stretched out behind him. Firemask shot out his front legs, catching the thrush on the wing and bringing it down. Landing with a thud the young hunter snapped the little bird's neck, killing it. He brought the catch ovet to the dead rabbit and set it down. Well that was majorly lucky. he thought to himself.
